I am not an expert on real world VR porn developments, in the realm of BDSM or otherwise. But it would be impossible to deny my more than passing familiarity with hentai bondage art of all kinds. I am particularly interested in the creative ways that hentai artists hint and gesture at fetish concepts that aren’t easy to depict literally. It’s easy to show a tentacle monster buttsexing some helpless bondage heroine. But how do you show that someone is fantasizing about helpless tentacle butt sex? This is just one of the many high-meta problems that hentai artists tackle every day. And one of their tools, these days, is to use depictions of VR goggles to hint that what we see on the screen is someone’s fantasy or carefully-chosen virtual reality programming.
It seems to me that there are at least three ways to use virtual reality tech in BDSM scenes, whether real or fantastic. A person in bondage can have sensory input imposed by a dominant as punishment or torment — perhaps unpleasant or scary input. Horror scenes, intense boundary-pushing sexual scenes, or incongruous cute videos that clash with their physical sensations in restraint. Just another mindfuck, in other words. Or, a person in bondage can enjoy supplemental VR headset inputs that reinforce their pleasure, allowing them to travel out of the physical scene and into the scene of their fantasy. And finally, VR can be used by the top to imagine themselves in a scene or to change how they experience a scene. Art is not always going to tell us outright which of these uses we are looking at. In this picture, for example, is the person with the headset on actually fondling the breasts of her tied-up lesbian lover? Or is she squeezing a couple of plush toys while enjoying a particularly lush VR bondage movie? The joys of viewing art is that we get to decide what we’re looking at:

A long time ago, I read a story in a bondage stroke book — perhaps one of the very many penned by F.E. Campbell? — about a unique bondage punishment. Until I stumbled over the above photo compilation, I never saw this scenario depicted in visual bondage porn. Probably because it’s a scenario that’s low-drama and not much happens. I’m impressed by how much effort went into these pictures. Nobody pours a concrete pad and uses heavy equipment to set a decorative boulder on it just to shoot a photoset. A lot of effort went into setting up this slave-restraint area, which makes me think the girl actually spent more than one night on that chain! At least, unlike my fictional bondage heroine, she gets a cushy dogbed to curl up on at night.
