During the Apollo project, the astronauts returned to Earth in re-entry capsules which were designed to splash-land at sea and float until the astronauts could be retrieved by Navy vessels. At the time, there was a significant design concern about the capsules; they were said to have two stable floating attitudes, called Stable One and Stable Two. Stable One was desired; in Stable One position, the capsule floated upright and the astronauts could be retrieved without getting wet. Stable Two was emphatically undesireable; as you’d imagine, in Stable Two the capsule was upside-down, the astronauts were considerably less comfortable, and the retrieval hatch was underwater. NASA tried not to talk about the existence of Stable Two.

What does any of this have to do with bondage? Well, the following series of photos suggests that there’s a similar dynamic applicable to bondage girls on air mattresses in swimming pools. (Don’t try this at home.) Here’s Julie Knight as a SocietySM slavegirl, at repose (as if she had a choice) on an air mattress. Is he really using her mouth as an ashtray? It’s hard to see from here:

There’s a famous Eric Stanton drawing of a BDSM ponygirl race:

So far as I knew, it was a black-and-white drawing used to advertise episodes of Stanton’s “The Perils of Gwendoline” serial; there’s a large version here (at Kinky Delight) that used to appear in advertisement sections in old bondage magazines.

However, just today I stumbled over a detail from the same artwork, only this time it’s in brilliant living color, not just in those soft blotchy watercolors that he often used, but with what looks like an overpaint with the acrylics that he sometimes used in his book cover work:
