A steel cable gag is cheap, simple, effective, cruel, punitive, and as permanent as the prison warden wants it to be. In the case of Kate Kenzie, she mouthed off once to many times. There’s a good chance she’ll still be wearing the damn thing when she’s discharged. Some of the prisoners whisper a rumor that it can take more than a year to relearn how to talk after a few years wearing the cable gag:

An unpleasant man, a beach, a bunch of crabs, a rising tide. If our heroine wants out of this one, she’s going to have to use her mouth to convince the nasty man she’s worth digging up, and I don’t think he’s in a listening sort of mood!

There’s a complicated scandal embroiling the man who is presently the governor of Missouri. A few years ago, before he was elected to the current post, but while he was a married man, he is said (according to this article, and based on a tape recording quoted therein) to have seduced his married hairdresser by inviting her to his basement “to show you how to do a proper pull-up.” There he taped her to “some rings” and blindfolded her (apparently with her consent, although it’s not as clear as would be ideal) and caused her to believe he had photographed her (without her consent) and would spread the pictures “everywhere” if she ever mentioned his name.
The woman’s marriage did not survive this event; the man’s, so far, has, although his governorship is now twisting in the political winds, mostly (since the woman has never complained about his behavior) over the recording memorializing what sounds an awful lot like a blackmail threat.
What strikes me about all of this is how much tsuris could have been avoided if shame were removed from the picture. It’s not the kink that gets you, Governor; it’s the cover-up.
As if you did not already know, this is some terrible mastering skills on display right here:

These panels drive the plot of the rest of the most recent Oglaf cartoon, and things go, as you would expect, downhill from there.

The post this blonde is chained to is, I’m thinking, probably heavier than it needs to be; but it makes a great visual backdrop for whatever is about to happen to her.
