Belly Dancer Bondage Costume

The world of belly dance is not one I know much about, but I do know this much: many dancers are also crafters, because of the elaborate costumes they wear during their belly dance routines. And although these costumes can draw on the numerous different cultures and traditions informing that dance style, harem dances and harem-girl costumes are by no means uncommon. Only rarely, however, do you see a dancer who fully embraces the Orientalist stereotypes of the captive harem slave. Which, from the point of view of our narrow interests here at Bondage Blog, is something of a pity.

The costume above goes further than most in the chained-harem-girl direction, with its beaded collar, arm and wrist bands that seem to symbolize restraints, and fabric linkages between them. I believe this photo is from the cover of a belly-dancing choreography video.

Nicely done. A belly-dancer’s skirt should ride so low on the hips that it looks like any moment it will slide down to her ankles.

Her costume makes the men think that if that happens, she will be unable to reach down and pull her skirt back up.
