I did some further checking and found out that the guy who did the naked gal at the mast painting is an artist named Col Cameron, who did a LOT of lurid damsel in distress art for an Australian publisher called Horwitz back in the 60s and 70s. I wrote it up with links to more pics and background over on my blog. Mystery solved!
