Yeah, and this is where I’ve been slow to evolve along with the rest of the internet, making feedback like this valuable. Before Facebook, nobody had the meme that there ought to be an easier way to indicate approval than leaving a comment, and since I’m not a Facebook user, the meme’s not yet ingrained in my clicky-fingers, either.

Reason this should be easy to implement is that “babe” blogs have forever had voting and rating systems where you could click an icon to indicate a thumbs up or thumbs down. So I’ll betcha that when I go looking, I can either find an explicit “like button plugin” or a thumbs up plugin I can pervert to that purpose.

I see them as having very different functions. I only comment when I have something substantive to say. Posting a comment just to say “I like this!” seems like a waste of everyone’s time.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I know why the social buttons are of limited use, I just wasn’t clear enough on the function of the “like” button to know what it would do here (where there’s no identity associated with it).

I guess what I still don’t know is how many people find leaving a comment to be a barrier. I guess I should gin up a “like” button and see…

Linking to a fetish blog on Facebook, particularly when you live in the bible-belt, is socially dangerous for a ‘good’ reputation. Just a hazard of being southern.

I was just thinking that it might be a way for the lurkers to point out what is more interesting to them without having to un-lurk (de-lurk?) to leave a comment. It might help generate more feedback.
