I probably don’t fully understand the German-language caption that goes with this illustration, but what I can make out with Google’s help goes something like this:

French book illustration to a flagellation novel in which alleged unrighteous and cruel acts of Austrian soldiers are portrayed during the Lombard campaign.

The novel in question is Gringalette by Hugues Rebell.

The translation is almost correct. “Unzuchtsakte” does not mean “unrighteous acts” though. “Unzucht” is probably best translated as fornication…
