Puritan Gangbang
You ever wonder why the Puritans were so fond of putting misbehaving women in the stocks or the pillory? Maybe it was just a good excuse for a public gangbang:

The pillory prevents her from seeing exactly who among the village males is participating, as long as they approach her and line up from behind. If the men are quiet, she can’t recognize them by the sounds of their voices.
So after her sentence has been completed, and she is once more free to wander the streets of the village and mingle in the marketplace or town square, she can never be sure if the males she sees are ones who knew her, in the Biblical sense.
What she finds particularly galling are the adolescent males just coming into puberty. Maybe they are bluffing with their winks and their smirks, and just pretending that they were involved. Or maybe not.
Perhaps her female friends would enlighten her, but when the men are busy like they are in this picture, the womenfolk tend to hide indoors, and do not witness enough to identify the males for her.
