The Hanging Stocks

This “hanging signboard” pillory/stocks hybrid bit of dungeon furniture is visually quite fun, and not something I’ve seen before:

I’m wondering what’s the advantage of having the pillory be hanging like this. For the top, doesn’t it just give her too much wiggle room? For the bottom, doesn’t it take away from that wonderful helpless feeling that stringent wood bondage is supposed to provide?

I’m a skeptic, but I find this equipment intriguing anyway, and I would love to try one out.

One advantage…height is easily adjusted (shorter or longer chains) if the bottom is unusually short or unusually tall.

Also…the chains can be removed, and she can be brought elsewhere, still entirely restrained.

John,

Four years later, I have to say that I agree! I had never thought about it being adjustable and portable. Very nice. Thank you.
