I’ve actually got one of those training shock collars for dogs, but it turns out that it’s a hard limit for The Not-So-Lucky Girl, so we probably won’t be trying this.

People, have you ever played with a dog training collar? The shock is sharp and painful but very very very very brief; it’s also adjustable with a dial from one to ten, which my senses parse as “can’t feel it” at one, “ouch” at five and six, “shit please don’t do that again” at seven, and “I’m too chicken to push the button if I turn this up one more notch” at eight or nine.” (Presumably if somebody else has the button that’s more like “please master I’ll do what you say don’t hit that button again I promise shit OWCH!”)
It’s powered with a couple of button watch batteries. There isn’t a shock powerful enough to bleed away from the point of the electrodes or to trigger muscular contractions anywhere. What the person does voluntarily in reaction to the shock is, of course, only as predictable as however good you are at predicting it.
Bear in mind too: there are more places to put a dog collar than around a neck.
