OK, so I’ve scoured the googles and every term I can think of, but I can’t find the kinds of pipes, fittings, and variable-angle clamps and mounts used on sites like kink.com and similar. My girl really wants me to build a few rigs that we’ve seen, but I’ve not been able to locate the hardware. I really thought ‘scaffolding parts’ would do it, but wasn’t even close… Thoughts?

Well, I’ve spent time in the hardware business, and some of their fittings are simply black iron (non-galvanized) water plumbing parts. And some do look like scaffolding gear, especially the ones that grab the outside of that thin-walled conduit and tighten with one sunken-hex fastener.

But you’re right that it’s not standard construction-site scaffolding stuff, and that thin-walled conduit doesn’t look like electrical stuff or any other specific sort of pipe I know about.

One theory I’ve got no way to check is that it’s stagehand stuff — gear made for setting up stages at concerts and in theaters. That would make sense, as some of Kink.com’s photographers and riggers and set dressers may have stagehand experience in the broader entertainment industry.

Exactly- those are the items that I’m having the most problem with… the things that look like double-loops or figure 8’s with a hex screw to clamp down on the pipe they’re slid over. I’m beginning to wonder if they’re custom forged! I’ll shoot off to the googles for ‘stagecraft’ incantations and see what develops. Thanks for the input!

Please post your results here if you find anything; I’m interested in this hobby my own self.

Earlier this week, I was in West Marine, and it looked like they had all this hardware… Chromed!
