I love this sort of ambiguous art from the covers of old pulp novels. It doesn’t take much imagination to see this girl as having her hands tied behind her back and to that tree, forced to wait helplessly for her captor…
But of course, if you see that, you’ve got a dirty mind. Surely she’s just taking a little break? You pervert!

Actually, if you look there appears to be a rope or something around the bottom of that tree about where her arms would be. How do we know that she isn’t tied to it waiting helplessly for her captor?
Well – can’t a girl, albeit in a very short and rather dishevelled dress, kneel on the floor, hands behind her as if tied and with a wistful expression in her eye without SOME PEOPLE thinking this is all some kind of kinky artwork?

Isn’t there a rope going around the base of the tree?
That’s what I thought. There does in fact seem to be a rope around the tree by her arms. Maybe there’s some good reason besides bondage for it to be there but I can’t think of one.
